Slovakian Chuvach

The Slovak Tchuvatch is a mountain dog bred for the protection and care of livestock. It stands out for its white coloring that allows it to differentiate itself from other wild animals of the countryside. Its temperament is courageous and loyal.

The breed has a medium size and a strong constitution. Males can weigh between 36 and 44 kg, while females range between 31 and 37 kg. The height in males is between 62 and 70 cm and in females between 59 and 65 cm. Their life expectancy is 11 to 13 years. The Slovakian Tchuvatch belongs to Group 1 of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), which includes shepherd dogs and cattle dogs (except Swiss Cattle Dogs).

Breed characteristics

The Slovak Tchuvatch has a strong constitution and a moderately square figure, with long and strong limbs. Its eyes are oval-shaped and dark brown in color, and its ears are hanging and mobile at the base. Its tail, low set, hangs down at rest and is straight in shape. During movement, the tail is curved over the back. The coat is dense and white. On the head and limbs, the hair is short and close, a little longer on the back of the limbs. The long hair is wavy and the undercoat is fine, dense and covered by long hairs. In summer, the undercoat falls out and the coat loses density. The Slovak Tchuvatch is a dog of exceptional temperament combining loyalty, courage, intelligence and alertness. It is a loyal and protective companion, capable of facing any threat to protect its family. Its calm and serene nature in the home, combined with its distinctive white appearance, makes it a unique and appreciated breed.

Common health problems

Information on the most common diseases in the Slovak Tchuvatch breed is limited. Even so, it is likely to be predisposed to some of the most common disorders in dogs such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, volvulo-gastric dilatation, progressive retinal atrophy and cataracts.
