Gordon Setter

They belong to Group 7 of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), which includes pointers.

The Gordon Setter arose by crossing English Setter, Black and Tan Collie, Hounds, Black Pointer and Solid Black Setter. The American Kennel Club officially recognized the Gordon Setter as a breed in 1878. The breed quickly became popular in the United States due to its ability to hunt game birds and its loyal and affectionate personality. Today, the Gordon Setter is still a highly prized breed for both hunting and showing.

Breed characteristics

The Gordon Setter is a dog of elegant and swift appearance, with a medium elongated body. His eyes are dark brown and have an intelligent expression, while his ears are of medium size, set low and fall close to the head. The tail is carried horizontally or slightly below the line of the back, tapering towards the tip. The coat of the head, front end of the limbs and the tips of the ears is short and thin, while the rest of the body has a long, straight coat, including the tail, at the base of which a characteristic fringe is formed.
