General details

Breed history in brief
In the 1980s, the Szobries couple from Germany began to develop the Elo breed through the initial crossbreeding of Eurasiers and Old English Sheepdogs, with the aim of creating a family breed without hunting instinct. The first puppies born from this crossbreeding were named "Eloschaboro". However, the lack of sufficient Eurasiers presented a problem for the breeders, so they decided to include the Chow-chow in the mix to solve it. Later, to broaden the genetic base of the breed, Dalmatians and Samoyeds were included, as well as, to obtain smaller dogs, Elo was crossed with Pekingese and Japanese Spitz.
Today, the Elo breed remains relatively rare outside Germany, but is gaining recognition and popularity in other countries as well.
Breed characteristics
The Elo breed is noted for its strong and balanced build, with a body longer than tall and long, straight limbs. His head is broad and his eyes are dark and expressive. Small, triangular, erect ears complement its elegant profile. Its dense tail is carried curved over its back, giving it a distinguished appearance.
The medium-length coat of Elo dogs is soft and dense, with an undercoat that protects them from the cold and wet. Their color variety includes black, brown, cream, gray and red, combined with white patches. Although their coat is a great advantage in protecting them from inclement weather, it is important to remember that they can overheat in hot climates, so they should have access to shade and cool water during exercise or outdoor play.
These dogs are very intelligent and easy to train, making them excellent candidates for obedience training and other dog sports. In addition, their loving, loyal and gentle nature makes them ideal family companions. Since they have a moderate energy level, it is important to provide them with sufficient daily exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy.
Common health problems
Information on the most common diseases in the Elo breed is very limited, even so, it is likely that it is predisposed to suffer from some of the most common disorders in dogs such as hip or elbow dysplasia, cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy or glaucoma.
