Breed history in brief

The Chinese Crested Dog is a breed of dog believed to have originated in China over 2000 years ago. Although it is not known for certain how the breed originated, it is believed that it may have been the result of a cross between the Pekingese and the small Mexican hairless dog known as the Xoloitzcuintle. During the 19th century, the breed became popular as a pet in Europe thanks to traders and travelers who brought Chinese Crested dogs with them. The breed also became a favorite of European nobility and royalty, and some Chinese Crested dogs have even been portrayed in famous works of art. In the 20th century, the popularity of the Chinese Crested dog declined, and during World War II, the breed was in danger of extinction. However, thanks to the efforts of some dedicated breeders, the breed has recovered and is now a relatively popular breed worldwide.
