Breed history in brief

The Khao Manee, originally from Thailand, is an ancient breed mentioned in a collection of historical Thai poems from 1350 known as "Tamra Maew". Considered a symbol of good fortune, prosperity and talisman, it was bred by Thai royalty for centuries. The breed remained unknown outside Thailand until the late 20th century, when it began to be introduced to other countries, gaining recognition. In September 2015, Khao Manee was accepted by TICA for championship. However, it remains one of the least common breeds.

Its eyes are large and expressive, they can be blue or a mixture of one blue and one green or amber (heterochromia). Their ears are relatively large and rounded at the top. They may appear slightly transparent due to their light skin and coat. The nose and pads are pink. The head is wedge-shaped, with high cheekbones, which accentuates the elegant appearance of this breed. The coat is short, soft and completely snow white. They are noted for their affectionate and intelligent character.

Common health problems

In general, the Khao Manee is in good health, but as a white cat with blue eyes may be at increased risk of deafness due to a genetic defect affecting the inner ear. It may also suffer from dental problems and eye disease.
