Breed history in brief

The Devon Rex originated in Devon, England, in the 1960s, when a kitten with a unique curly coat was discovered in a litter of stray cats. This kitten, named Kirlee, became the ancestor of the breed. Through selective breeding programs, breeders were able to establish the distinctive characteristics of the Devon Rex. The breed soon gained popularity for its unusual appearance and charming personality, being officially recognized by several cat associations in the decades that followed.
