Cornish Rex

The Cornish Rex is a breed of cat that generally weighs between 2.5 and 4.5 kilograms. Males usually weigh between 3.5 and 4.5 kilograms, while females weigh between 2.5 and 3.5 kilograms. They are approximately 30 to 35 centimeters in height and have a body length of around 40 to 50 centimeters. Life expectancy varies between 9 and 13 years. This breed is recognized by associations such as the International Cat Association (TICA) and the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA).

The Cornish Rex originated in Cornwall, England, in 1950, when a kitten with an unusually curly coat was born in a litter of farm cats. This kitten became the founder of the breed. Breeders quickly recognized the uniqueness of his coat and began a selective breeding program to perpetuate these characteristics. The breed quickly gained popularity and spread to other countries, being officially recognized by various cat associations over the years. Today, the Cornish Rex is prized for its unique appearance and playful, sociable personality.

Common health problems

Although generally healthy, Cornish Rexes can be prone to certain common diseases, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dental problems, congenital hypotrichosis, patellar luxation and dermatitis.
