Breed history in brief

The American Curl, originally from the United States, is a breed of cat recognized for its distinctive ears. It is the result of a spontaneous mutation of the ears in the domestic cat population. The history of this breed began in 1981, in Lakewood, California. Thanks to selective breeding, the descendants maintained the characteristic curved ears. In 1986, the International Cat Association (TICA) officially recognized the breed, and in 1993, the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) did the same. The American Curl has quickly gained popularity for its unique appearance and charming personality.

The American Curl is distinguished by its elegance and balanced proportions. Its medium-sized body is slightly longer than tall, with moderate, well-muscled limbs. The head is a subtle wedge with an elegant muzzle, and its large expressive eyes vary in color from gold to green. The ears, curved back, are its most notable feature. The long, slender tail complements its harmonious figure. Their coat, short or semi-long, is silky and soft, available in various colors and patterns.
